Gin

This week is National Craft Spirits Week and thanks to my friends at Spirit Hub, I am celebrating in full force! One of my favorite parts of being a cocktail blogger is getting to discover and try new spirits, it’s the best way to learn more and make new connections in the industry. Thanks to Spirit Hub, I’m able to discover amazing new distilleries from all over the country and get them shipped right to my door! It takes the stress and guesswork out of finding quality spirits, so that I can focus on making cocktails like this delicious floral gin sour!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Spirit of Prohibition Barreled Gin

  • 1 oz Salish Sea Chrysanthemum Liqueur

  • .75 oz Vanilla Syrup

  • .75 oz Lemon Juice

  • Egg White

  • Floral Bitters

  • Dried Lavender

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients except for the floral bitters into a shaker without ice and shake for 15 seconds.

  2. Add ice and shake again for 10 seconds or until chilled.

  3. Double strain into a coupe glass

  4. Top with 3 dashes of bitters and dried lavender. Enjoy!

Barreled gin is quite possibly my favorite category of spirit, I feel like it’s the perfect compromise for gin and bourbon lovers, the extra time aging allows for a fuller more robust flavor than what I feel is typical of gins. This lavender-infused barreled gin from Dark Door Spirits is an exceptional sip, if you’ve never had a barreled gin before this is a great one to start with!

This cocktail also uses an amazing chrysanthemum liqueur from Salish Sea Organic Liqueurs! Since I was a kid, I have always loved chrysanthemums not only because they’re beautiful flowers, but also because of the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. It’s an adorable story about a little girl who feels shy because her name was different from all the other kids until she learns about how beautiful the flower she’s named after is. As a kid with an uncommon name, this book meant a lot to me. Now as an adult I love and appreciate my unique name, just as much as I love and appreciate a unique liqueur or spirit!
