Absinthe Frappe

Ever heard of an Absinthe Frappe? Believe it or not this used to be a New Orleans BREAKFAST drink. Can you imagine drinking absinthe for breakfast? Talk about a wake up call. Let’s make one- and I won’t judge by the time of day you choose to drink it.

Absinthe Frappe

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Absinthe

  • 1 Sugar Cube*

  • 5 oz Chilled Water

  • Mint

Method: Start by filling your glass with crushed ice. *Place an absinthe spoon over your glass and place the sugar cube on it. Then slowly drip the absinthe, followed by the water, over it until the sugar cube dissolves. Then using the spoon, give it a good stir. Express your mint by smacking it between your hands and then garnish your drink. Enjoy!

* if you don’t have a fancy antique absinthe spoon or sugar cubes on hand, you can use 1/4 oz of simple syrup and a bar spoon!

This bottle of Absinthe is from Deacon Giles in Salem MA was one of my first investment bottles when I started this page. I remember it was right at the beginning of the pandemic after curbside pick-up was introduced. We had just used the last of our Amber Rum (incredible) and ordered one online and couldn’t stop myself from buying this as well. We drove back roads to Salem from New Hampshire and made a whole day of it. Good times but much better now that we can enjoy cocktails in their distillery bar!
