Blush Rush

I look forward to two things in winter- skiing, and blood oranges. They aren’t in season for long so preservation is key. One great way to do that is to turn it into a liqueur. . . and then use it to make fabulous cocktails.

Blood Orange Liqueur

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz Blood Orange Juice

  • Peels of 4 Blood Oranges

  • 4 oz Water

  • 1 Cup Sugar

  • 8 oz Vodka

Method:

In a saucepan over low heat, combine juice, water, and sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add in the peels and vodka. Transfer to a glass container and let it sit for four days. Strain out the peels and store in a cool place for up to a month!

Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Tequila

  • 1 oz Lime Juice

  • 1 oz Blood Orange Liqueur

  • 1/2 oz Agave

  • 1/2 Lillet Blanc

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake for 15 seconds. Double strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a dried blood orange wheel. Enjoy!
