Haunted Halloween Cocktails

Halloween is this weekend and I could not be more excited! I love any excuse to dress up and create cool costumes so it’s not surprising that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays (right in between the Fourth of July and New Years). This year I partnered with my friends at Tamworth Distilling in Tamworth New Hampshire to bring you three spooky cocktails featuring their limited edition Graverobber Unholy Rye Whiskey! This undead rye whiskey gets its name and maple flavor from the maple trees that line a colonial-era graveyard in Tamworth.

If you’re interested in learning more about cocktails and the excellent spirits from Tamworth distillery, I will be teaching a class on December 11th at the distillery! Tickets will be available soon! Let’s get shaking.

Jack-O-Lanter Sour

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Graverobber Whiskey

  • .75 oz Lemon Juice

  • 1 oz Apple Cider & Brown Sugar Syrup

  • Egg White

  • Cinnamon

Method

  1. In a shaker, combine whiskey, lemon juice, apple cider syrup, and egg white.

  2. Shake without ice for 15 seconds.

  3. Top with ice and shake again for 15 seconds until the outside of your tin is cooled.

  4. Strain your cocktail into a chilled coupe glass.

  5. To create a Jack-O-Lantern design on top of your cocktail, cut the shape out of the center of a piece of paper. Position the paper above the cocktail and gently sift cinnamon over the top. Be careful not to move the paper while you’re sifting.

Apple Cider & Brown Sugar Syrup

  1. Combine equal parts apple cider and brown sugar (for me, 1/2 a cup and 1/2 a cup) in a saucepan over low heat.

  2. Stir consistently until brown sugar is completely dissolved. Do not simmer.

  3. Once dissolved remove from heat and store in a non-reactive glass container like a mason jar.

  4. Enjoy in your delicious cocktails!

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Graverobber Whiskey

  • .75 oz Lemon Juice

  • .75 oz Fig Syrup

  • Apr. 2 TBS of diced apple

  • 2 oz Pinot Noir

Method

  1. In a shaker, combine fig syrup and diced apple and muddle until the apple is broken up

  2. Add in whiskey, lemon juice, and ice, then shake thoroughly for 15 seconds.

  3. Strain into a rock’s glass over a large ice cube.

  4. Using a bar spoon, float the pinot noir over the top of the cocktail by slowly pouring the wine over the back of the spoon so the wine sits on top of the rest of the cocktail.

  5. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy!

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetle…

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Graverobber Whiskey

  • .75 oz Ginger Syrup

  • .75 oz Lemon Juice

  • .5 oz Beet Juice

  • 2 oz Apple Cider

  • Rosemary

  • Apple

Method

  1. In a shaker, combine whiskey, ginger syrup, and lemon juice. Top with ice a shake for 15 seconds until chilled.

  2. In a tumbler over fresh ice, add beet juice to the bottom and then strain your shaker over the top.

  3. Optional- carve a jack-o-lantern face into your apple using a pairing knife! Gently (light pressure) create an outline and peel the inside of the shapes out. Be careful not to slice your fingers!

  4. Top with apple cider and garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a slice of apple. Enjoy!
